Grant Recipients Announced for the “Social Sector Capacity-Building Grant” to Strengthen Nonprofit Human Resource Development Systems

ETIC has selected two organizations to receive funding through the “Social Sector Capacity-Building Grant” (hereinafter referred to as “the Grant”), which supports nonprofits in building systems and networks for human resource development.

The purpose of the Grant is to provide funding to nonprofit organizations that are in the phase of transitioning (or have transitioned) into a structure with department-specific managers as part of business expansion and diversification. The funding aims to support the establishment of human resource development systems and networks both within and outside their organizations.

The background to the Grant’s launch lies in the challenges faced by Japanese nonprofits, including a shortage of experienced management talents with expertise in human resource development and limited resources available for investment in this area. These issues pose structural barriers to the sustainable growth of nonprofit organizations.

The Grant is operated by ETIC with funding from the Apollo Opportunity Foundation (AOF). Apollo is a high-growth, global alternative asset manager. AOF was launched in 2022 with the commitment to invest $100 million over 10 years in non-profit organizations working to expand opportunities for underrepresented individuals in the regions where Apollo operates.

DxP is a nonprofit organization working to address the isolation of the youth generation. We operate “Yukisaki Chat,” a free consultation service on LINE with over 10,000 registered users nationwide, as well as youth centers located in bustling urban areas during the evening.

To be candid, our organization has prioritized program operations and fundraising, often neglecting to focus on how to build a robust organizational framework or create an environment conducive to human development. As a result, we have relied heavily on the individual efforts of our staff.

We are deeply grateful for this grant, which provides us with an opportunity to address capacity building for each team member and lay the foundation for advancing our programs sustainably.

Our mission is to bring happiness to children’s present and future by providing them with safe spaces and activity opportunities during after-school hours.

To expand our activities nationwide, building consensus and collaborating with municipalities, businesses, and other organizations is essential. However, our current operations have offered limited opportunities to gain such experience.

I am genuinely excited about this training opportunity. I hope it will equip our passionate young social sector staff—those who have earnestly dedicated themselves to the well-being of children—with the shared language and critical thinking skills needed to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and dynamically lead projects.
